Scrappin' Saturday!

Back before I started scrapbooking, I used to spend my free time quilting, and enjoyed taking classes and attending quilting seminars. At one seminar I attended, the teacher said that every quilt needed either some black or purple in it somewhere, because those colors added contrast and sparkle to the quilt. I've always remembered that, and found that it holds true in scrapping, also. Sometimes I'll have a layout all put together and realize that it just needs a little something to pull it all together. Often adding just a touch of black or purple, or even a dark brown, adds just enough punch to make things come together.

You can add black mats to your photos or pp, add some black penwork around the page, a few black brads or buttons or even a ribbon bow. On the page of my DGD, I used some tiny black letter stickers, a thin black shadow on the title letters and some black buttons. On the Christmas page, I added very thin black matting to the photo, the pp pieces and the title letters. (BTW, this one is based on a sketch from Julie Bonner @ 52 Sketches.)

Next time you feel like your page "needs a little something", try adding a touch of black or purple and see if that doesn't do the trick!
