Spotlight Sunday

Welcome to Spotlight Sunday!
We are still “spotlighting” our designers and today we have two “fantabulously” talented ladies.
Let me first introduce to you to Maquel from Paper Maine-iac!!

1. When did you start scrapbooking/paper crafting? Why?
I have always been a crafter of various mediums, but my obsession with paper crafting started in 2007, when I was pregnant with my daughter. My husband bought me an original Cricut and the New Arrival cartridge for my birthday (what a guy!!) and my intent was to scrapbook her life. I still have YET to start a scrapbook for her, but discovered I could do other things with that nifty little machine, and my hobby simply took off!
2. What is your favorite type of project to make (i.e. cards, LO, mini-albums, etc.)?
I make mostly cards and 3D objects/Home Decor items. I still would love to start to scrapbooking, but just haven't gotten there!
3. What is your favorite product to use on your projects?
There are several products that I couldn't live without!!
  • 1. My Sizzix Texture Boutique for embossing
  • 2. My white gel pen
  • 3. Chalk or Distress ink to add some detail and dimension
  • 4. My ATG gun, Zip Dry Glue, and Pop Dots
4. What is your favorite Cricut cartridge?
So many to choose! I love most of them!! The cartridges that I use the most frequently though would have to be Create A Critter, Simply Charmed, Cindy Loo. I also love the licensed cartridges, even though they are more difficult to cut and assemble. If you take your time, and do them right, they really look awesome!! When you have young children, these are a must!! :)
5. What do you do in your spare time, when you are not paper crafting?
In my spare time, I love to hang out with my family, read (Jodi Picoult is my favorite author), surf the internet for great paper crafting inspiration, manage my fantasy football and baseball teams depending on the season...and I will admit, that I am a reality TV junkie!!!

6. Any other info you would like us to know about you.

I am so excited to be on my very first Design Team!! I love my online Cricut community. It is through the internet that I have met so many new people (I would love to meet more!). A goal of mine is to meet more local paper crafters and maybe teach some classes, if I can drum up interest at some point. I sometimes feel like I'm the only paper crafter up here in rural Maine!! (Are there any of you out there?!?!?! LOL!) My online community is a way to connect to others with the same passion. I'm looking forward to getting even more inspiration from others, and hopefully creating inspiration for you, as well!! :)

Now let me introduce to you to Marlene from Scrappin’ Cookie

1. When did you start scrapbooking/paper crafting? Why?

I fell in love with scrapbooking when I was pregnant with my first son and saw all of the beautiful things that you can do with paper. It’s been 7 years since then!

2. What is your favorite type of project to make?

I love all things crafty! Everything from scrapbooking to altered items. I orignally started out doing layouts and soon discovered how to alter items - fell in love with that. Then I started cardmarking - fell in love with that - but I've always said I'm not a cardmarker. Then I learned how to use my Cricut Expression to make 3D items - boxes, signs, treat bags, etc and fell in love with that too. I've also done a few cross-stitching projects, but that was many years ago. But if I had to pick an UTILMATE FAVORITE I'd have to say its making 3D items!

3. What is your favorite product to use on your projects?

I love combining everything together! I love my Cricut Expression and Design Studio. I use them for almost EVERY project; together they have expanded my creativity level. After that I love to use sketches, chipboard, inks, bling –stickles & pearls, my Signo White Pen, digital sentiments, and lots of layers on most of my creations. I do have a clean and simple style, though.

4. What is your favorite Cricut cartridge?

Really? Just one? I can’t pick! I think it all depends on the project I’m working on. For Valentine’s Day, I mostly used the Doodlecharms cartridge. For FCCB’s Challenge #50 – Tree Time, I mostly used Simply Charmed and Create A Critter. I also love the Paper Dolls Dress Up cartridge for all the accessories it brings. I don’t think I’d be able to live with just one!

5. What do you do in your spare time, when you are not paper crafting?

Spare Time? What’s that? I mostly craft in the morning while the kids are in school. My afternoons are filled with homework, household duties, and playtime with my boys. And I might get to sneak in some more craft time after I put the kids to bed and before my husband comes home from work. And if there is any extra time, I love spending it with my family

6. Any other info you would like us to know about you.

I recently celebrated my 27th birthday and have been married to my wonderful and supporting husband for 7 years. Together we have two little boys, almost 7yrs and 4 years old. And last week I was informed I had been selected to be part of the Birthday Sundaes Design Team, too. I’m so excited to be part of the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog Design Team and hope you all enjoy my creations.
