Welcome to another Scrappin' Saturday here at Fantabulous Cricut!
Several weeks ago, I showed you how to make your own "laser-cut" decorative edge papers using your Cricut. If you missed that article, you can see it HERE.
Well, here's another way to customize your papers to make your layouts truly unique...
You're probably familiar with the super-popular 12x12 "lace cardstock" pages that have the die-cut flower, butterfly or swirl patterns, and cost a ton more than a regular piece of cardstock, right? Well why not make your own?
There are two ways that I know of to do this:
1) Use the "Fit To Page" function to cut a particular pattern from your cartridge stash...several cartridges have die-cuts that could be used for this type of project, including Storybook and Wild Card. For this layout, I used the Wild Card cartridge and a 12x12 sheet of hot pink cardstock. Using "Fit To Page", the pattern was cut at 11".
2) Using Design Studio, weld several shapes together (covering an area equal to that of your page) and cut. This will give you the same result as above, only you can make your lace cardstock out of any shape in your stash!!!

Now it's your turn...I want you to try this technique and share your gorgeous pages with everyone. Please leave a comment below with a link to your project...can't wait to see what you come up with!
Happy Scrappin'!!! :)

This is a great idea - I love the look of the cut patterned paper, but they are too expensive for me!!! I will definitely have to try this.
ReplyDeleteI've done this twice and love the effect it creates. I don't have a Cricut that takes 12x12 but you can still use the 6x12 for a cool look. The first page I did I used Sure Cuts A Lot, found a cherry image, and welded them together. I used the paper to back my photo.

The other time I was recreating my Christmas card as a scrapbook layout. I cut branches out and used those 6x12 strips across the top of my page.

I love it because it's cheaper than buying the laser cut paper, but you can also create EXACTLY what you need rather than trying to make what's available fit to your page.
I love this idea...I'm going to try it with my Gypsy...tfs!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, love this idea!
ReplyDeleteThis idea is fantastic. I see the die cut pages in the stores, but not only are they expensive they are never in the right color for my layout. This will solve both problems. I love your blog. You offer so many neat ideas. Thank you for sharing your creativity with others.

Ok I got to try this in the morning...the paper that comes like this is always so expensive...this looks like it could be a lot of fun to design!
ReplyDeleteI tried this technique for the first time over the weekend using my Expression and the Gypsy. Thanks so much for sharing the idea!
