Do you love chipboard alphas, but hate the expense and the way you always run out of certain letters? Here's a way to use your Cricut to make faux chipboard alphabets....and use up scrap or ugly cardstock as well.To make faux chipboard, you need to cut your letters multiple times. For my example, I cut the word "Fall" four times from some really, really ugly yellow-green cardstock that had been in my stash for a long time. (It must've come in a cardstock stack because I would never have bought this color myself, LOL!) The color of your cardstock doesn't matter because the top layer will be cut from patterned paper and that's all you'll see.

Once your letters are cut, apply adhesive and start stacking the layers. It's best to use liquid glue (like a Zig glue pen) or a gluestick, but you can also use your Xyron. The important thing is to get complete coverage of adhesive on the die cut. Press each layer down firmly to make sure it's adhered completely. Once you've stacked your cardstock layers, add your patterned paper layer on top. For the final touch, take an emery board or fine sandpaper and lightly sand the edges. This step isn't really necessary, but it helps blend the layers together so they're not visible from the side. Voila - you've made your own chipboard alphas!Here's a closeup of my "chipboard" title:
You can use your letters as is, like I did, or you can add a layer of dimensional adhesive like Glossy Accents, or even Mod Podge, to get a shiny polished effect. And, don't limit yourself to alphas - you can use this same technique to create flowers, frames, borders, etc.
