Thursday Tutorial - Shaped Card

Hi there! Rachel here from Cricut with Heart sharing my first Thursday Tutorial with you. This was something I discovered out of necessity a while back when I wanted to make a mitten shaped card but my Gypsy was broken and I couldn't get Cricut Craft Room to work with my laptop.

First locate the cut line on your cutting mat.  It will be easy to see the edge of where the blade will cut when you have a used mat like this one.

Once you have located the cut line on your mat, position a folded piece of cardstock on the mat, with the folded edge just below the cut line.

I cut the mitten shape from page 79, Accent 2, at 5 1/4".  You'll need to use the Multi Cut feature since you're cutting through 2 sheets of paper.

Once it's cut, you'll have a section at the top that still has the fold in it since it was below the cut line.  So now you have a shaped card!  Easy, huh?

Next, all you have to do is decorate it and you're done!  Here is how my mitten card turned out after I added some layers and trimmings.

I hope you'll try this fun and easy way to make a shaped card out of almost any Cricut cut.  You could try this with a kite or balloon Cricut cut and enter it in our Spring is in the Air challenge this week!

Happy Crafting!

  10. Just a question ... does the top part of the paper not move when it is being cut or did I miss something? It is an awesome idea, the cricut has lots of designs that I would love to make into a shaped card!

    1. Hi Brenda, I didn't have any trouble with the folded top part moving while being cut. I suppose it could be lightly taped together with removable adhesive if that happens. Let me know how it works out for you! :)

  12. Oh man..this tutorial is about 48 hours late from saving me pulling out chunks of hair. I literally settled on cutting the base with my cricut and then tracing and handcutting a card shape and then building on top with the rest of the cricut layers. This is AMAZING!! I'm off ot make another shaped card now just to try it out! You rock!
