Good morning everybody! I'm Cyndy and I'll be taking over Quick Tip Tuesdays for the next few weeks! Jamie has been doing a fantabulous job these past weeks! I've been playing with the ol' Cricut since mid 2010 and I hope the tips I have help you as much as they've helped me.
As you probably guessed by the title, this is another, yet different tip on how to recondition your Cricut mat. See Jamie's here.
My BFF saw how much I was struggling with my mats not being sticky enough especially while cutting that she showed me a quick and cheap way to recondition them.
1. Clean your mat. You can either use just soap and water or baby wipes.
2. Use blue painters tape to tape around the border of the mat.
3. Spray 1- 2 coats of Krylon Easy-Tack Repositional Adhesive, depending on how sticky you want it. Try to do it outside or in an open area. Note: It's acid free and it's typically about $6.99 at Michael's and you can use a 40% or 50% coupon on it!
4. Let your mat dry for about 5 minutes.
5. Remove the blue painters tape you're all set to craft!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I've struggled for a couple years to find the right tip to reuse my Cricut mats. I discovered Tack It Over and Over watered down works well too. Your tip I will definitely try.
ReplyDeleteCyndy-some repositionable adhesives dry to a permanent state after 24hours so if something were left on it would be stuck permanently. Also this type of adhesive has to be used over and over again to achieve the same effect as it dries out the pores of the mat.(Mats become bone dry after 24 hours and you have to respray-not good) better to use ZIG two way glue method lasts longer safer for mats. ReplyDeleteActually, I've found that if you REALLY scrub your mats with baby wipes and get up all the little paper fibers, (it takes me several baby wipes and about 30 minutes per mat, I clean it in sections) and then let them air dry completely overnight, they're perfectly sticky and ready to use the next day, wthout any added adhesive! This may not work once you've already started using adhesive on your mats though.

ReplyDeleteI just wanted to add my two cents worth. I have been washing my mats with dish soap and really rubbing them with a flat plastic spatula to get the bits off. When they dry they are still nice and sticky. However, if the stickiness is gone then I use the Zig two way glue pens. I have been using the same 2 mats for two years now.
