Quick Tip Tuesday: template for patterned paper

Well, darn.  I had this scheduled to post at 4:00 am and it went to draft form.  Sorry, Ladies

Welcome back to Quick Tip Tuesday.  Last week I shared using a stamped image on acetate to determine where to place your image before actually stamping on your project.  Well, that idea got me to thinking . . .  I have purchased paper packs with gorgeous patterned papers, but I'm not always sure how to incorporate the images for card mats or bases.  I wind up cutting and recutting and often wasting paper.   So, why not make a template for my card mat and then move it around the patterned paper to see just what it would look like before cutting?  I'm so excited about this idea.  I've been going through my patterned papers now and finding all kinds of ways to use the wonderful patterned images.  I usually cut my mats at 4 x 5.25 so that I can place it on a plain cardstock base with a quarter inch edge, so that's the size I used for my trial.  You can make your template(s) whatever size you'd like for your mats.  Here's the idea:

You'll notice my outline is a little smeary (is that a word?).  I printed it on my computer, but the ink tends to smear on the transparency.  I think a Sharpie would work just as well as long as your corners are square.
I hope this idea encourages you to use those gorgeous patterned papers you've been stashing (oh, maybe that's me who's been stashing papers LOL. )

  2. Wonderful tip Larelyn! It makes me cringe when I think about some of the gorgeous (not to mention expensive) paper I have wasted by not getting the perfect measurements or cutting in the wrong place! Thanks for sharing such a great tip!

  4. I LOVE this idea! I have to get some acetate to do this because I do tend to not touch my pattern paper because I'm too afraid to cut into it!

  7. Love the idea! I'm going to use some of the clear plastic packaging that the cartridges (& nearly everything else) comes bound in. I re-use that for windows in my favors boxes too. Thanks for the creativity boosts your ideas give me.

  10. What a great idea, now I can use the corners of paper that I wouldn't use for a layout. Thank you so much for sharing...
