Spotlight Sunday

Welcome to Spotlight Sunday. My name is Saundra and I am your spotlight hostess here at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. Beginning today and every Sunday we will be spotlighting our guest designers and sponsors.
I would like to introduce you to Sandee from http://sandeeallen.blogspot.com/ .
Sandee will be our guest designer for our next Challenge Me Monday. We here at FCCB wanted you to get to know Sandee a bit so we asked her a few crafty questions.
1. When did you start scrapbooking/paper crafting? Why?

In 2003 I began my first plunge into the world of scrapbooking when I married a man who had 2 adorable, wonderful boys. It became my obsession to scrap every moment I spent with them...and we had tons of fun times that deserved to be documented! After getting divorced I discovered all the wonderful scrapbooking sites and blogs on the internet which introduced me to the world of card making, mini albums and altered art. I was hooked! So you can say that my marrying a man with children started it but the internet really opened a whole new world for me.

2. What is your favorite type of project to make (i.e. cards, LOs, mini-albums, etc.)?

I spend most of my time making cards but if the occasion arises I love to get lost in the art of creating a mini album. They fascinate me and I make them for gifts to give to my friends and family. I love to make them from scratch so I am always collecting chipboard! (I have to make a confession here, I never used my Cricut to help me make an album! ::gasp::...) That is on my list to remedy in 2011!

3. What is your favorite product to use on your projects?

This is the easiest question to answer-anything bling related whether it be stickles or rhinestones!

4. What is your favorite Cricut cartridge?

I think my favorite cartridge is always the newest one in my collection and I got Stretch Your Imagination for a Christmas present; so right now, it's my favorite!

5. What do you do in your spare time, when you're not paper crafting?

I watch some reality shows like Biggest Loser, Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, and The Apprentice....but to be completely honest...I paper craft in my spare time.

Any other info you would like us to know about you :)

My newest fun thing to do with my paper crafting is getting published. I have 2 cards in the CARDS, Hottest Trend in Card Making magazine (November 2010 and upcoming May 2011 issue) AND upcoming in the April/May and the June/July 2011 issue of their CRICUT magazine!!

Scrapping Saturday

I don't know about you, but one of the hardest things for me in creating a scrapbook page is coming up with a title. Luckily, there are a few websites out there to help us create awesome titles.

Scrapbook.com has this great site with titles sorted into categories. So if you're looking to scrap some winter snow photos, you can click on the "winter" category and find 90 title ideas.


The Perfect Title lists all their categories down the left side of the website. Once you select a category, you will see any subcategories available to narrow down your search even further. For instance, if you click on "pets", you'll find subcategories for "cat", "dog", "horse", "other animals". Pretty cool!

And check out Debbie Hodge's Get It Scrapped website here for suggestions on ways to come up with scrapbook titles. She has some fabulous ideas for thinking through the whole title process and coming up with the perfect title for your page. Here's one of her example pages. She explains her thought process on this page and how she came up with the title from a quote by Helen Keller.

Fantabulous Friday #44


Good Morning and welcome to another Fantabulous Friday!

Before we get started - just a quick THANK YOU for all the sweet comments you left last week on my first posting as your new Fantabulous Friday Gal! I appreciate each and every comment. You guys sure know how to make a girl feel right at home!

Ok, enough mushiness...let's get on with things!  This week's challenge on FCCB is:

Challenge #44 Neglected Cartridge
Make a project using a Cricut cartridge that you haven't used in over 6 months.

Ok...confession time.  I need to show you something...



These are my cartridges (yes, I know...I have a problem)!  And, despite my very best intentions, I know that many of my cartridges must feel unloved, unwanted and yes...NEGLECTED.

It was really hard to choose just one cartridge that I have neglected, but I finally settled on......



Once Upon A Princess

Once my choice was made, I dusted off my cartridge and got busy working on a Valentine card for my Granddaughter (the reason I bought this cartridge in the first place). 


This is really a great cartridge with a lot of features...especially if you happen to have a princess in your life! I used the doll on page 25 and the dress from page 28 in the handbook.  Even if you don't currently have a princess in your life, this cartridge offers some other great features.  That great tag at the top of this card also came from OUAP.  There are several unique tags available on this cartridge that are wonderful to use for stamped sentiments or background mats. 


After working on this card, I felt inspired to work on a scrapbook layout.  As luck would have it, I just happened to have a few pictures that I knew would go along perfectly with cuts from this cartridge!  I also knew that I wanted to use the layout sketch that Jennifer posted on Scrappin' Saturday. Thanks Jennifer for the inspiration to get me started.  If you missed Jennifer's sketch, you can get it

And.......here is my layout...fit for a Queen!


A great feature on this cartridge is the "Phrases" feature.  Not only do the phrases work well alone, but most have a really cool layering option available.  Here's the one I used for my title....





See how the layering makes the phrase pop off the page?
Of course, a little bling never hurts!





In this picture, you can see that I used another one of those great tags to make a journaling tag.
Also, notice how using the shadow feature behind the castle really makes that castle stand out from all the pink going on around it.

 Ok...had enough princess "stuff" to hold you for awhile?  Me too....moving on....

The other day as I was killing time doing some research, I came across a blog with some very cute cards from yet another cartridge that I have neglected of late!  Jeannine of

created some wonderfully, cute cards using the Wild Cards cartridge.  This one is my favorite:

Thursday's Tutorials: 3D Robots

Happy Thursday Everyone and Welcome to another Thursday's Tutorial here at Fantabulous Cricut. I hope you are all enjoying our Neglected Cartridge theme this week.

While thinking about Neglected Cartridges, I was thinking that one of the things I tend to neglect are the 3D items that you can make on the carts. When the Robotz Cartridge came out, I just had to have it, because I wanted to make one of the 3D Robots. Well, it turned out to be harder than I was anticipating. I ended up having to recruit my husband to help me figure out all of the folding. So, this week I wanted to find a tutorial to share with you all to help with these robots.

I found this great video from Joy over at Joy's Life. Be sure to check out her Youtube channel for more great videos and ideas here.


I hope this video has been helpful and will inspire you to make your own 3D Robot. Here is the one that I made. The great thing about these robots is that you can make them as simple or as detailed as you want when it comes to decorating them.

Quick Tip Tuesday: Shape Cards

Welcome to Quick Tip Tuesday!

Today's tip really is a quick one:  When creating a shape card, cut an extra full image for the front.  That way, you can glue the image to the front of your folded card and will not have a flat line visible at the fold.
You can see the folded line at the top of the black base of the card.  I cut an extra image (in brown) to glue on top in order to have the entire football without a flat portion.
And here is the completed card:  a shape card with no flat-edge visible.
