Thursday Tutorial

Good morning everyone!
This is Missy from Quick Chick Designs here with my very first "Thursday Tutorial" post!!  When I signed on to be the "Thursday Tutorial Girl", I was really excited, and then I realized---I needed to find something to post about!!  After bouncing some ideas off some of my terrific bloggy friends, I thought it might be helpful if I did a Cricut Craft Room series.  It seems like there are still quite a few people who aren't really familiar with CCR, or some people who tried it out but aren't really comfortable with it yet.  I thought some tutorials might encourage people to use this terrific design tool.  **Disclaimer:  The holidays are soon approaching, so don't be surprised if my weekly series gets derailed for some holiday project posts!!!**
To get started in Cricut Craft Room the first thing you're going to want to do create a Cricut account, if you don't have one already.  You can go to www.cricut.com to accomplish this.  To get to the Craft Room program, you're going to click on this tab.

Next, you're going to want to install the program on your computer, selecting whether you want to install it on a Mac or a PC.   Remember, one of the perks is that Craft Room is FREE!!!  You're allowed to install the program on two computers.  I have it loaded on my desktop, where I have a nice sized monitor to work with, as well as my little laptop that I can take down to my scraproom and easily plug in to my Cricut when I'm ready to cut.
Now that you've got the Craft Room program loaded, you can log in to the program using your www.cricut.com account.  You'll log in to the program every time you want to access Craft Room.  The first thing I do when I log in is select the machine I want to cut with and the mat size.  Do I want to cut with my Expression, on a 12 x 12 mat, or maybe my Mini, on an 8.5 x 12 mat??  For me it all depends on the project that I have in mind.  If you are going to be using the same machine every time, you can just select your machine and mat once, and you're off and running cutting.

By clicking on those green tabs that are on the left hand side of your screen you can change a lot of things about your specific designs.  We'll get to those as we go along in this series.
So there you have it!!  A very basic instruction on how to access Cricut Craft Room, load it to your computer and select your machine and mat.  Next week I'll show you how to add an image to the mat, move it around, and why on earth you might want to color your images in on the screen!!  See you next week!!

  1. Great idea for a series.
I got scared off from CCR early on when so many people had probs with it.
When I got a new computer I decided to give it a try. Then a few months ago they did a big update which I like.
My only concern is how slow it runs when doing anything with welded words. That spinning blue thingy kind of gets on my nerves. lol
Other than that I love creating with CCR.
    Looking forward to your series.

  3. I'm so glad you're doing this series. I was one of those that tried CCR, got frustrated and went back to Design Studio. I'm hoping that your tutorials will ease me back into it.

  6. Looks like I am not alone. I tried the CCR but never felt comfortable enough. Mainly,I want to be able to weld. I do not have a Gypsy or Design Studio, dreadful, I know!!! My DH gave me a E2 for my B-Day. I love love my Expression. I passed it on to a good friend, for her to get the Cricut bug. A happy but sad moment.....lol. I knew if I keep the Expression I would, never get to know my E2. And with that I want to learn the CCR. Badly. Thank you so much.
